Dry Wine Crusade – Germany Trade Seminar – CVG

At the beginning of the 20th century, Germany had an international reputation for producing some of the world’s greatest dry and sweet wines. In fact, the best estates of the Rheingau and Mosel demanded higher prices than Classified Growth Bordeaux and Grand Cru Burgundy.

Unfortunately, after World War II, a series of events happened that erased Germany’s historical prestige and replaced it with the image of cheap sweet Riesling. This stereotype persists today, despite the fact that the Germans drink mostly dry wine. As of 2011, 65% of all German wine produced was dry or off dry and Riesling accounted for less than 20% of the Trade Seminars with Matt Citriglia M.S. try’s total production. Germany is also the third largest producer of Pinot Noir in the world, which they refer to as Spatburguner.

This seminar will review new regulations put into place that will help promote and sell dry wines as well as review regional growing conditions and grape varieties that produce quality dry German wine. The seminar will conclude with a general tasting of dry German wines and a culturally diverse lunch.
